Entry Requirements: A degree or equivalent professional qualification in an appropriate subject. Applicants without formal entry qualifications may be admitted according to their work experience and responsibilities.

Recent expansion in world trade has been accompanied by changes to world trade protocols and by the application to it of western environmental, health and "ethical" standards. This has put pressure on businesses to improve their social and environmental performance and is redefining the roles of NGOs and development practitioners. This emphasises the need for professional education in the management of these demands through an understanding of these changes and the development of relevant skills. This course aims to provide the understanding and skills necessary to formulate socially and environmentally responsible management strategies in different fields of work.

On successful completion of the programme the student will be able to:

  • understand the dynamics of the increasing world trade and its varying impacts on different national and socio-economic groups and on the environment;

  • critically evaluate the management system in which they operate in order to formulate and implement changes for improved social and environmental performance;

  • critically evaluate the social, economic and environmental implications of proposed changes; and

  • integrate academic and vocational knowledge for managing information and other resources.
